Millais School is a girls’ secondary school for students aged 11–16 situated in Horsham, West Sussex. In July 2011 the school became a National Teaching School with student numbers currently over 1500 and rising due to the school’s popularity.
In 2011 our design team created a multi-function library through clever use of furniture from UK Manufacturer Orangebox. 10 years later we have redesigned the space again to create a learning resource centre for the school. With the brief to reuse existing furniture where possible, Kuda Kapuyanyika has created a dynamic space where students can collaborate, concentrate and create. A wide range of individual zones enable students and teachers to have choice when they use the LRC – with high back seating booths, fitted computer benching, collaborative flip top tables, and various soft seating areas and zones with modular seating units and mobile stools. A stunning feature timber ceiling combines with circular suspended pendants, and the space is well balanced with hanging acoustic panels to reduce noise transfer.
